And that’s not because people lack the knowledge of creating a high converting landing page…

Google is literally shitting out all the information and studies you could want without paying a penny

We recently started a Google Adwords campaign that is holding strong at a 15% overall campaign CTR.. but the landing page conversion rates were just “ok” in our eyes.

I spent hours and hours watching recordings of visitor interactions, (mainly using a software called hotjar.com) obsessing over the data to see WHY people interacted like they did in order to improve our landing page conversion rates

I spent days analysing all of our landing pages that converted above 40% in 2016.

And I found 2 basic things I will show you in the image below that made the biggest difference between a bad converting landing page... and a good one. (clue.. its not looking "cool")

  1. DISTRACTION - This landing page above has ONLY been clicked where we want people to click. There are no clicks on any other area because we have eliminated anything that could possibly make the user click on that page. There is NOTHING to distract them from taking the action we want them to take.
  2. CURIOSITY - 14.3% of people did not reach the bottom of the page… that means that 85.7% of people did. Because although we could not get a Call To Action above the fold, we ensured an image of the product and a headline and sub headline that both related to the preceding ad, offered the prospect a solution to their main problem and grabbed curiosity enticing them to scroll further.

These are the 2 biggest mistakes I see people making with their landing pages

Apart from not mobile optimising < an executable offence IMO

Don’t be lazy

Don’t fall into the same trap. Look at your marketing funnel. Look at the way people interact with the pages.

Use it to offer your prospect an easier and more enjoyable landing page experience
